A Valentine Celebration

Valentine’s Day is a day to express your love, to remember why we love those we do, and to eat chocolate. Greenwood Health & Living community had a Valentine’s Day party for the residents that had both love and chocolate…a perfect combination!

The celebration began at lunch when the first grade class from the Greenwood Christian Academy performed. Dressed in their Sunday best, with hair done just so, and smiles with gaps where teeth will be, the children danced and sang. The joy and the energy of the seven and eight year olds filled the dining hall. The children, and the music they bring, are one of the best examples of the reason for Valentine’s Day. They bring a pure love; one filled with the connection only a child can have with an elder.

The children brought over 100 valentines they had made at school, each one hand made and decorated. They went around the room and passed the cards out. Everyone got one. The room was warm with the glow from the residents as the young hands reached out with their tokens of love.

First came the love and then came the chocolate. Activities Director Heather Land had more planned. She had a Valentine’s Day party scheduled for later in the afternoon. Heather decorated the dining room with hearts and cupids and there was candy and cookies and punch. They played valentines Jingo. It is a variation on bingo with a Valentine’s Day theme. There were prizes, music, and snacks. It was a wonderful time!
